Las Canciones Internacionales

The romantic etiquette of swirling gowns, black ties and ballrooms zests the memory. Beyond the moonlit patio, waves caress white sands beneath gently swaying palm trees…and the music begins.

Las Canciones Internacionales is the follow up album to Los Boleros Holguineros, singer Chiquitin’s collection of original ballads. Once again the intimate austerity of voice and piano provides a splendid aural feast; this time with 13 international classic titles such as Besame Mucho and Solamente Una Vez.

Once again in the company of pianist Vic Vogel, Chiquitin’s languid voice rises in celebration of each song: He isn’t known as the Bing Crosby of Cuba without good reason. Likewise the reputation of bandleader Vogel is internationally acknowledged; here again it acquiesces gracefully at the grand piano.
As the title Las Canciones Internacionales suggests, these are favourites from Latin American countries and cultures: Cielito Lindo is practically an anthem from Mexico that lends a light hearted mood to the proceedings while the haunting Cancion di Orfeo (Black Orpheus) is synonymous with Rio de Janiero and Brazil. Quisas Quisas Quisas, Perfedia, Quien Sera – all are time-tested standards of world reknown. The exceptions? They are Candileja, Charlie Chaplin’s immortal Eternally, and Fue Ayer, Paul McCartney’s Yesterday, both songs being native to the tropical British Isles.

Chiquitin, Vic Vogel and VvRecords.com invite you to partake of this romantic programme, hoping you enjoy listening to Las Canciones Internacionales as much as they enjoyed making it!
