CENCORED W.D.C.S. censored cover in Canada internal mail PP19450926
$75.00
This cover was mailed in Quebec, Canada on September 26, 1945, by Freddy Masson Case Postal 190, Haute Ville, Quebec, P.Q. It was sent to Mlle Lucienne Masson in Montmagny P.Q. A 4 cents King George VI War Issue (#254) is cancelled by a slogan postmark that reads: CONSERVE COAL CONSERVEZ LE CHARBON. This slogan has the number C-1620 in Cecil Coutts, Slogan Postmark of Canada 2002. Why has this cover been CENSORED W.D.C.S. (War Disease Control Station), as it appears on the cover front? We don’t exactly know since this is a censored cover in the internal mail!!! But we suppose that it has been redirected to the Grosse Isle (about 50 miles from Quebec City, on the St Lawrence River) where the Masson family had their familial house and where there was then a joint USA-CANADA research center on biological weapons. This fact may explain the CENSORED W.D.C.S. in a box, stamped on the front. Because the Grosse Isle had no post office since 1937, the mail was probably handled by the Montmagny’s Post Office (an incomplete cancel on back shows the letters MONT) and, somewhere, censored W.D.C.S. This fact may explain too why all this is on a patriotic WWII US stationery showing a soldier pushing with his bayonet a crying Japanese whit a text that reads: SAVING FACE. The cover has two small paper hinge marks on back. Otherwise, it is in great condition.
